Behind the mask: Colleen Foskey, Hatch Radiation Protection Operations Superintendent

Editor’s note: “Behind the mask” is a series to help you get to know some of the Southern Nuclear team.

How long have you been with the company and/or in this current role?  I have been the Radiation Protection Operations Superintendent since April 2016.

Give us a brief description of your job duties. I provide oversight for radiological safety of workers at Plant Hatch, as well as the surrounding communities.

What is your favorite part about your job? The people: working with them, as well as watching people develop in their roles.

Why do you like working in the nuclear industry? I feel like I learn something new every day.

What misconception about nuclear power do you most want people to understand? Safety is not compromised in nuclear power.

Why did you choose the mask in the picture? I graduated from the University of Georgia and love the Dawgs.

What have you learned as a result of or gained from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and resulting safety precautions? Do not take the ability to give or receive a hug for granted.

What has been the hardest part for you about it? Knowing there are people that are alone and isolated who cannot be with their loved ones.

What are your hobbies or favorite past times?  Going to the UGA football games, so I am struggling this year with the pandemic limitations.

What is your favorite music? I love any classical rock like Journey, Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, Eagles, Bob Seger, etc.
