Employee Spotlight: Jill Hershman

Every day for more than 40 years, Southern Nuclear employees have been improving the lives of our neighbors in Alabama and Georgia. Meet one of our folks who’s dedicated to providing you with clean, safe, reliable and affordable energy.

Jill Hershman, Plant Farley Engineering Systems senior engineer.

How long have you been with the company? Seven years.

What do you love about your job? I love getting to work with a variety of individuals at the plant as well as working to provide solutions to improve the reliability of our equipment.

Hometown: Dallas, Texas.

First job ever: Babysitting.

Favorite food: Mac and cheese.

What is your favorite movie and why? The movies at the top of my list would probably be Top Gun, North by Northwest, The Princess Bride, and Rogue One – most of my favorites tend to be action/adventure movies.

If given the chance, who would you want to be for a day? Gene Kranz, NASA flight director for the Gemini and Apollo missions (including Apollo 11 and 13). I think it would be very interesting to be in his shoes during one of the missions – taking in all the information and leading the team to make the appropriate decisions for both the safety of the astronauts and the success of the mission.

What are your hobbies? Running, reading and traveling with my family. We go to a different city or country every year.

What interests you about nuclear energy? The entire process of how nuclear power is generated is very interesting, especially since the technology was developed within the last century.
