Southern Nuclear remains committed to keeping Safety First as COVID-19 continues to evolve
Developments surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19) continue to evolve. While news about the spread of the virus continues, Southern Nuclear remains committed to keeping our employees, plants, customers and communities safe. The company has implemented detailed plans and procedures in line with recommendations and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the U.S. State Department, World Health Organization, local health department officials and Southern Company medical directors.
“The safety and well-being of our employees, plants, customers and communities remain our no. 1 priority,” said Chief Nuclear Officer Pete Sena. “The nuclear power industry, along with the country’s entire energy sector, is important for every citizen in the United States. The actions our teams have taken work to ensure nuclear safety, personal safety and the successful execution of our business initiatives.”
Along with Southern Company and its operating companies, Southern Nuclear has taken the following proactive actions to help flatten the curve and prevent further spread of COVID-19:
- Implementing telecommuting for employees who can perform their duties remotely.
- Canceling facility tours and external meetings.
- Increasing cleaning frequency at company locations and aggressively sanitizing work areas.
- Canceling all non-essential business travel – both domestic and international.
- Asking employees to self-identify if they have or plan to travel internationally.
- Using technology for meetings.
